“90 years and beyond – Passion for engines”: In its anniversary year, too, MTU Aero Engines will be attending ILA Berlin from June 5 to 9 to show off what has made it world-famous for decades – innovative commercial and military engine technologies for today, tomorrow, and beyond.
One priority for the future commercial concepts are new technologies for low-pressure turbines (LPT) and high-pressure compressors (HPC), which were developed and validated as part of Clean Sky 2. MTU will be presenting a sample low-pressure turbine at its trade show booth. The European research program is slated to end this year, after a ten-year term. The innovations will flow into the next generation of geared turbofan engines.
The MTU engine experts can be found at several different locations in the ILA-ExpoCenter Airport: at the company's 300-m² booth in Hall 2, No 310; in the MTU Chalet No 18, Row East; in the FCAS Chalet No 10-11, Row West; and at the Military Support Center in Hall 3, where MTU team members and soldiers from the German armed forces will demonstrate their joint maintenance activities on a EJ200 Eurofighter engine. MTU will also be represented in the Future Lab from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) in Hall 2, No 220 / 230.
Driven by visions of tomorrow
Zero emission is the major goal of commercial aviation as well as the vision of MTU. The experts have formulated future-oriented responses to this goal, and they are working on further developments also in the evolution of the aircraft gas turbine, based on the geared turbofan and revolutionary engine concepts like the Water-Enhanced Turbofan (WET) and Flying Fuel Cell™ (FFC). Highlights of the MTU booth will include the interactive trade show exhibit, which uses a stylized turbofan to explain the compressor and turbine technologies in detail, and the WET and FFC models.
Innovations: The WET exhibit also provides information about SWITCH. The Clean Aviation project, Sustainable Water-Injecting Turbofan Comprising Hybrid-Electrics, plans to combine two revolutionary technologies – WET and hybrid-electric engine elements. The FFC model offers information about the Clean Aviation sister program HEROPS (Hydrogen-Electric Zero Emission Propulsion System). Building on MTU's FFC, the goal is to develop technologies for a climate-neutral, hydrogen-powered electric powertrain that will put regional airplanes in the air starting in 2035.
Driven by mission
As always, MTU's military area is also strongly represented at the trade show booth. There will be an EJ200 – combined with augmented reality applications – along with the TP400-D6 for the A400M military transporter and the MTR390 for the Tiger helicopter. Here, too, the focus is on the future – presenting and explaining concepts around innovative individual technologies for the New Generation Fighter Engine (NGFE), the engine for the new European fighter jet. They will also present the engine for an European Next Generation Helicopter.
Driven by passion
Last but not least, there are MTU's innovative repair technologies and custom-tailored maintenance solutions, which will be presented in the form of an interactive holo-touch exhibit. Experts from MTU Maintenance will be on hand to talk with the visitors.
Another focus is personnel marketing. Experienced HR experts will explain the diverse job and career offerings from Germany's leading aero engine manufacturer. They will also offer consultations.
