MTU Aero Engines secures orders worth 500 million US dollars at the Farnborough International Airshow

MTU Aero Engines AG looks back on a successful Farnborough International Airshow: The company returned with orders totaling approximately 500 million US dollars. Orders were placed for engines for short- and medium-haul aircraft, long-haul aircraft, and regional jets. "The high demand underscores MTU's positive growth prospects," said Dr. Johannes Bussmann, CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG. "With our broad portfolio of engine programs, we were able to succeed across all segments. This shows that we are involved in the right, future-oriented engines. We will also benefit in the aftermarket in the future through our broad maintenance portfolio."

In the narrowbody and regional aircraft segment, MTU's orders resulted primarily from orders and letters of intent for the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engine family. The airlines British Airways, Tigerair Taiwan, and the lessor Jackson Square chose the PW1100G-JM to power their A320neo family aircraft. The Abra Group, Binter Canarias, and Luxair ordered Embraer regional aircraft from the E2 family, which are powered exclusively by the PW1900G.

In the category of engines for long-haul aircraft, the Dreamliner's GEnx engine took the lead at Farnborough: Philippine Airlines selected the engine for 15 Boeing 787-10 aircraft, and AerCap for 15 787-9 aircraft. In addition, National Airlines ordered six CF6-80C2 engines.

MTU holds a 15 to 18 percent stake in Pratt & Whitney's geared fan engine family, depending on the model, and is responsible for the development and manufacturing of various stages of the high-pressure compressor, the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and brush seals. In addition, one-third of the PW1100G-JM production engines undergo final assembly at MTU in Munich. For the GEnx widebody engine, MTU is responsible for the turbine center frame, which accounts for 6.7 percent of the program. For the CF6-80, MTU supplies components for the low-pressure compressor, the high-pressure compressor, and the high-pressure turbine.
